Napa County has a robust network\nof animal organizations who are united in their efforts to support those of you\nwith pets who might need assistance.&nbsp; &nbsp;Enclosed are some resources to help you manage\nyour pets, while you look out for your own health and safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Planning for the care of your pet, should you become ill<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Companion Animals<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There have been reports of a dog testing positive for\nCovid-19. &nbsp;Several veterinary\ninstitutions are investigating this to get a better understanding of risks to\ndogs, and potential for cross contamination.&nbsp;\n<strong>There have been no reports of humans catching Covid-19 from dogs or\nother pets<\/strong>.&nbsp; Until we have a better\nunderstanding of risk to dogs, we recommend that you assign pet care to a\nfamily member or connected acquaintance who is not ill.&nbsp;&nbsp; <strong>Start planning for this contingency now,\nas the safest place for your pet is at home with you. &nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Avoid snuggling, sharing food, playing and\nsleeping with your dog if you are ill.<\/li><li>Designate a family member to do feeding, walking\nand playing.<\/li><li>If your pet becomes ill while you are in self\nquarantine or infected with Covid-19, follow your veterinarian\u2019s protocols for\nveterinary care, which will likely be communicated when you call in for an\nappointment.&nbsp; Indicate to them if you are\nill or in self quarantine due to exposure. There are resources listed below for\nemergency pet transport to a DVM, if you are unable to arrange transport.&nbsp; Make sure your veterinarian has an email\ndesignating an alternate care giver.<\/li><li>If you must care for your pet while ill, wear a\nmask and wash your hands before and after handling.<\/li><li>If a connected acquaintance is available, leave\nthe animal in an accessible room for the care giver with posted instructions including\nfood type, quantity, daily routines, leash\/halter access, and veterinary\ncontact information.&nbsp; Create a visit\nschedule that allows you to avoid any contact. <ul><li>The care giver should wear gloves when entering\nthe adjacent room and handling the dog or cats, and touching surfaces.&nbsp; A mask is not required, as the ill person is\nnot in the room.&nbsp; Ask the care giver to\nemail or call with any concerns, including:&nbsp;\nnot drinking, eating, urinating, defecating, significant lameness or\nswelling, or vomiting and lethargy.&nbsp; <\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Make sure the designated care room does not have\naccessible trash, plants or other hazards the animal can access while unattended.&nbsp; Wipe down surfaces around food and leashes\netc. and leave Clorox wipes in the room.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Care giver should dispose of used gloves in\ntrash can outside of care area.&nbsp; Wash\nhands thoroughly with soap and water as directed for Covid -19.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>In an abundance of caution, the care giver\nshould change clothes before handling pets at home to avoid transmission of\nother diseases or parasites, fleas etc. <\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>General Recommendations for Dog etiquette in face of\nCovid-19<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Do not pet other people\u2019s dogs.&nbsp; Maintain social distancing of 6 feet and walk single file or stop on trail to facilitate distancing when approaching other groups.<\/li><li>If you are ill or in self quarantine due to known exposure, stay home and make arrangements for your pet or walk your pet locally using social distancing.&nbsp; Wear a mask if appropriate.<\/li><li>Pets are sensitive to the emotional state of their human companions. These are stressful times and you may experience some \u201ccooped up\u201d behavior from your pets.&nbsp;&nbsp; If so, here are some great resources to keep your dog busy and tune up their manners: <a href=\"https:\/\/napahumane.org\/how-to-stay-sane-sheltering-in-place-with-dogs\/\">How to Stay Sane Sheltering in Place with Dogs<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Large Animals<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Designate a family member or friend to feed and\nwater animals if you are too ill<\/li><li>Fill troughs and ensure 2-4 weeks of feed are on\nhand. Plan to order feed and transition onto new hay over several days.&nbsp; Don\u2019t wait until you are out of hay.<\/li><li>If safe for your horses, wean onto pasture such\nthat care is minimal. &nbsp;It is essential\nthat introduction to grass or new food occur over a 7-10 day period with\nincremental exposure.<\/li><li>Leave\nanimals&#8217; leads, feeding instructions and medical records in a sheltered but\nobvious place.<\/li><li>Post\nyour veterinary contact information in the barn, and make sure to email your\nveterinarian to designate caretaker if you become seriously ill.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pet Food Delivery Options:&nbsp; <\/strong>we recommend you purchase a one month\nsupply of pet food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/news\/the-best-dog-food-delivery-services-in-2020\/\">CNET&#8217;s Best Dog Food Delivery Services in 2020<\/a> <\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.petco.com\">Petco<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.petfood.express\/\">PetFood Express<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Need assistance with pet food delivery or supply?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jamesonrescueranch.org\"><strong>Jameson\nAnimal Rescue Ranch<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Should you be out of work or are financially struggling due\nto this pandemic, Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch will offer assistance with pet\nfood supply and delivery<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Napa County residents needing food for their cats\/dogs, please visit your local drive up Food Bank Pantry Network.&nbsp; Hours and locations can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/canv.org\/food-nutrition\/food-bank\/\">here<\/a><\/li><li>For Napa County Residents who are quarantined&nbsp;by their doctor,&nbsp;and cannot leave their home, we are offering a pet food and\/or pet medication delivery\/drop off service.<\/li><li>For all bay area residents, if you are unable to make it to your local food bank and cannot afford food for your beloved animal, we can provide a 30 day supply of food.&nbsp; We look forward to helping our community with their needs. &nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Call our helpline at 707-927-3536 or email us at&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:helpinganimals@jamesonrescueranch.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">helpinganimals@jamesonrescueranch.org<\/a>&nbsp;for\nassistance. Thank you.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.countyofnapa.org\/1023\/Animal-Shelter\"><strong>Napa County Animal\nShelter<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Napa County Animal Shelter\u2019s ultimate\ngoal is to keep pets home with their families practicing shelter at home.&nbsp; If it becomes a matter of someone being\nhospitalized and no one else can take care of the pet, NCAS can offer a 30 day\nemergency boarding and\/or temporary foster after proper decontamination\nprocedures.&nbsp; NCAS can also offer supplies\nto facilitate the care of their pet such as leashes, collars, crates, bedding,\ntoys, etc.&nbsp; NCAS can also deliver\nsupplies if needed to encourage sheltering at home.&nbsp; NCAS has a limited supply of food donations and\ncan work with community partners as need evolves.&nbsp; In the event of loss of life with no next of\nkin, NCAS will prioritize owner surrender of the animal and provide temporary\nfoster and\/or rehoming of pet.&nbsp; NCAS is\nthe lead organization supporting the animal component.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.napacart.org\"><strong>Napa\nCART<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Napa CART has a reserve of trained\nDSWs who are available to support the existing agencies in pet food delivery\nand care if activated by the county.&nbsp;\nNapa CART will host regular updates with partner organizations and the\nCOAD to coordinate the animal component of response and report to NCAS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.napahumane.org\"><strong>Napa\nHumane<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Napa\nHumane is available for animal behavior assistance and can be reached at\n255-8118.&nbsp; Napa Humane is\nassisting the COAD to coordinate the animal response and resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sunrisehorserescue.org\/\"><strong>Sunrise Horse Rescue<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SHR has volunteers available to\ndeliver feed and care for large animals if next of kin are unavailable to do\nso.&nbsp; Requests for large animal assistance\ncan come through JARR\u2019s hotline and will be dispatched to SHR.&nbsp; Napa CART will work with SHR to procure\ndonations for large animal support<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wecareanimalrescue.org\/\"><strong>We Care Animal Rescue<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We Care Animal Rescue is closed to visitors, adoptions and\nin-take and has limited their services at this time to focus on taking care of\ntheir sheltered animals. They will be available to assist St Helena community\nwith urgent concerns on a case by case basis.
